The
Deming Prize
The Deming Prize is an
award, which consists of three categories including The Deming
Application Prize, The Quality Control Award for Operations, and The
Deming Prize for Individuals.
The Deming Prize was
established after Dr. W. Edward Deming spent nine profound days
lecturing about quality control in Tokyo. According to the W. Edwards
Deming Institute, a transcript was compiled of his seminars, which were
sold for a profit, and Mr. Deming generously donated those royalties to
JUSE. In appreciation of Dr. Deming's teachings and generosity, JUSE
implemented a prize to celebrate Dr. Deming's multiple contributions to
promote the continued development and advancement of quality control in
Japan
The W. Edwards Deming
Institute states that The Deming Prize is awarded to companies, or
divisions of companies, which have demonstrated a distinctive
performance improvement through the application of TQM in a given year.
The Deming Prize is also awarded to companies that improved their
application of quality control and quality management with the pursuit
of TQM in a given year.
Companies who have been
awarded the Deming Prize include AT & T Power Systems, AW
Industries Co., Ltd., and Diamond Electric Mfg. Co., Ltd.
