Loading and Unloading


OSHA requires training on loading and unloading of forklifts under 29 CFR 1910.178(l)(3)(ii).

This training includes:
  • Surface conditions where the vehicle will be operated
  • Composition of loads to be carried
  • Load stability
  • Load manipulation
  • Stacking and unstacking
  • Handling loads in areas where there is pedestrian traffic
  • Carrying a load in narrow aisles and other restricted places
  • Visibility when traveling with and handling a load
  • Carrying a load on surfaces which could affect the vehicle's stability.

Employees that are properly trained on loading and unloading will be more productive and help ensure a safe and efficient workplace.
