When developing a required or requested health and safety, environmental, or logistics plan or program, an important aspect is risk assessment.  Risk assessment addresses potential pitfalls and concerns applicable to the appropriate area, and indicates safeguards and measures in place to prevent the risk from becoming an actual problem. 

Through completion of a risk assessment, a facility is likely to identify areas which require improvement to provide and maintain a risk-free workplace. Through completion of a risk assessment and implementation of recognized procedures and safeguards, a facility is better equipped to handle risk management on a continual basis.
