New Jersey Spill Compensation and Control
Act
The goal of the New Jersey Spill
Compensation and Control Act is to protect New Jersey’s citizens from
the adverse effects that may result from spills of petroleum products
or other hazardous substances. The Act authorizes the State of New Jersey to
levy a tax on the transfer of hazardous substances at the point of
introduction into the state. The revenue generated by the tax is
credited to the New Jersey Spill Compensation Fund, which is used
for cleanup costs and damages when hazardous substance spills occur.
RCS, Inc. can assess the hazardous substances
received by a facility and calculate the total quantities received
for reporting to the New Jersey Division of Taxation. RCS, Inc.
can ease the paperwork burden by completing the required Spill Tax
form SCC-6 and submitting it to the New Jersey Department of
Taxation.
